Current and past productions

  • LINES

What connects five prisons over five decades in Uganda, Palestine, and the UK? A homeowner struggling to keep ancient land. A queer woman teaching in Kampala. The son of Idi Amin’s general. Lines looks through the bars of postcolonial life as told through stories in these diverging yet parallel worlds.

  • NEVER LOOK BACK (R&D)

Never Look Back brings to life a story of African Commonwealth soldiers (Kings African Rifle (KAR)) who fought for and alongside the British during World War Two.

  • “If I invited you to come with me on journey, a story, will you come with me?”

    FAR GONE

“If I invited you to come with me on journey, a story, will you come with me?” Far Gone is a profoundly moving story of a young boy’s journey from childhood innocence to child soldier.

  • BAD BLOOD BLUES

An intense rollercoaster of a play, that leads us through a streamlined ethical, sexual and financial maze of questions.

  • AWAY FROM HOME

It is one thing to migrate from one place to another as a child. But what happens when this migration occurs to one as an adult?

WORKSHOPS FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Roots Mbili Theatre has experience delivering theatre and storytelling workshops to young people, vulnerable groups and marginalised communities. These workshops use artistic techniques to empower people to tell their own stories, learn collaborative skills and nurture creative communities.

We are currently developing and refining our workshop community engagement model to ensure it is bespoke to individual groups and best serving communities with diverse needs especially where there are significant barriers to the arts e.g. lower-socio economic, people living with disabilities, people with lived experience of displacement/the asylum system.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss workshop facilitation. We are also open to delivering workshops alongside our touring productions.
